A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Prosthemadera novaeseelandiae
Spotted in my garden, Lynfield, Auckland. Endemic species to New Zealand. Both sexes look alike but the female is slightly smaller. Curved bill and dark plummage with white shafted feathers which curl on sides of neck
Common in forests but also lives in suburban gardens where it feeds on fruit, nectar and invertebrates especially large insects such as cicadas and stick insects
Sometimes called a parson bird due to the white feathers on its neck
