Well Bob, I'm reluctant to recommend another field guide to D&Ds since there are so many good resources available for free online. That being said, I recommend the Kindle version of _Dragonflies and Damselflies of the East_ by Dennis Paulson. The searchable text in the e-version of Paulson's book makes the book much more useful for me.
Geodialist, Maria and Lisa, Thanks for the warm welcome. I feel like a real newbie here but good to get started with two spottings. I have been a birder for a few years but just recently got a new camera and now into wildlife photography. Geodialist, I will be posting a few dragonfly spottings in the next day or two. Can you recommend a good field guide for dragonflies and damselflies? I have the new guide that was put out for Huntley Meadows but would like a more general guide to include damselflies as well. I hope that we canccross paths at HM.
Welcome to Project Noah, Bob! I suggest you add this spotting to the "Reptiles of the World" mission. http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/7970... I'm looking forward to seeing some of your photos of dragonflies and damselflies posted to the "D&Ds of HMP" mission.

Two more useful resources: 1) Odonata Central species list for Fairfax County, VA: http://www.odonatacentral.org/index.php/... 2) "Friends of Huntley Meadows Park" species list, "Dragonflies and Damselflies of Huntley Meadows Park" http://www.friendsofhuntleymeadows.org/S...
Louisa and Rob, Nice to meet you both. I will be posting more, mostly from Huntley Meadows, in the next few days.
Very nice spotting! Welcome Bob! Looking forward to seeing more of your photos from HMP!
Two good resources, for starters: 1) Odonata Central http://www.odonatacentral.org/ 2) Bug Guide http://bugguide.net/node/view/77
Geodialist, thanks for the recommendation. I will check out online resources before laying down the bucks for another field guide.
Gerardo, Thanks for the welcome.
