Cyrestis themire
A small butterfly that has flat tipped forewings and pale brown borders on its wings which help to separate it from other map wings. Its wings are primarily white with orange-brown lines on the white parts. It has a short pointed tail on the hindwing.
This species inhabits primary and secondary rainforest. It is most frequently encountered in clearings within the forest, where its behaviour is characteristic of other Cyrestis species. Both sexes fly slowly with sailing interspersed by rapid wing beats. They usually settle on the undersides of leaves and males may imbibe moisture from creek beds.
This butterfly was on an area of wet soil at the edge of a small stream flowing from a waterfall.
