Wild Turkey

Meleagris gallopavo

Notes:

A rare sighting for us on the Saddle Road between Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa in the early morning sun. They are not rare here, just that we don't usually see them. Introduced to Hawaii from the Mainland for hunting.

Thanks, the Saddle Road is a great place to watch them.

Very nice spotting birdlady! I know that there are chickens that roam the islands. I had no idea that turkeys did too!

Thanks, I love moments like this when they watch you for a while before quietly walking off.
