Olive Ridley Sea Turtle

Lepidochelys kempii

Notes:

Perhaps the most inspiring and magical experience of my life. On Christmas morning, my family and I were invited to help disperse sea turtle hatchlings on a beach in Oaxaca. A local family protects these eggs from poachers by relocating them into a guarded sea turtle "garden." I think we helped out around 400 baby sea turtles that morning. Knowing the plight of the baby sea turtles - an extremely small percentage survive to reproductive maturity - we all shed a tear as we watched them scoot out into the blue abyss.
