A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Dipalta sp.
This fly mimics a bee with its yellow, fuzzy body. The wings have brown veining and spots. It is about the same size as the European Honey Bee and is found in the same habitats. It rested on dry leaves or twigs near the ground where it camouflaged very well. It would then fly to the flowers to feed.
Buckwheat flowers in chaparral.
When the Honey Bees would land near the Bee Fly, the Bee Fly would fly away every time.
