Snowy Owl

Bubo scandiacus

Notes:

This really is the year of the Snowy Owl! Our Christmas Bids Counts broke all the records for numbers of Snowies this year. It's thought all these owls are around because of a large lemming population in northern Quebec, resulting in huge numbers of young owls. Here's a blog with a story about the Snowies, where the blogger saw 300 owls in a weekend in Newfoundland. http://brucemactavish1.blogspot.com/

Thanks Emily. This owl invasion is mostly the eastern part of the country, so Colorado isn't likely this time. But they have made it as far south as the Carolinas. I'll be looking for more Snowies so there may be more pictures:-)

Amazing! I can't tell you how jealous I am of all your snowy shots! Two years ago we had several pairs spotted in CO. Despite my best efforts, I never laid eyes on one! Keep the shots coming! ;)
