Viceroy Butterflies

Limenitis archippus

Description:

Several of these Monarch mimics on the Buttonbushes at the edge of the lake. It has a black line across the hindwing and a single row of white dots in the black marginal band.

Habitat:

A riparian wildlife area along the edge of Lake Lewisville. This was spotted on a day hike along the edge of the lake traveling south and west.

I usually go spotting with a friend. You look less silly if there are two of you running in circles.

I'm having the same problem with Black swallowtails here. They don't like to stay put long, and cover a lot of ground. I must look like an idiot chasing them around sometimes!
