A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Streptopelia semitorquata
A medium sized dove, the Red-eyed dove is slightly larger and stockier than other collared doves; and can reach over 30 cm in length, including the tail. It also appears darker: back, wings and tail are brownish, while the head and underparts are pinkish, shading to pale grey on the abdomen. There is a black hind neck patch, and the legs are red. The eye-ring is less prominent than in African mourning dove.
Here observed regularly in wooded areas in urban and peri-urban setting of Kinshasa. Very common dove in sub-Saharan Africa.
