Hesperiinae
(Two different grass skippers are shown.) A small orange and brown butterfly with large dark brown eyes, ringed in white. The antenna are alternating dark and white bands terminating in a mostly dark bulb that is white on the very tip. (Apparently what appears to be a bulb in my pictures is actually a tiny hook, not unlike a crochet hook.) The legs are very light as is the 'chest'. The top/back is a blend of warm oranges and dark brown. While at rest, the two wings were held at different angles While flying the butterfly is a small flash of orange darting about. No veins of contrasting color were visible on the wings of either of these grass skippers. The pattern of the fore and hind wing seem to be opposites; The hind-wing is largely orange, ringed in brown, while the fore-wing is mostly brown, ringed in orange. Both are edged with the lighter orange. I /think/ there is a dark mark on the fore-wing of the second grass skipper, which would indicate it is male.
Grassy areas. These two seemed to favor the slightly overgrown grassy areas of my backyard that were in partial shade. These areas were still a bit wet from a recent rain.
I could only really identify these guys as the subfamily Hesperiinae. (But I am leaning toward "Long Dash")
