Red-billed Tropicbird

Phaethon aethereus

Description:

Tropic bird with thick red curved bill, black outer primaries, dark stripe from lores to the back of its head, labored wing beats and very long tail feather. Also has a checkered, black and white feathered pattern along its back.

Habitat:

Pelagic bird that spends much time off the Pacific Mexico coast and migrates off the coast of the Gulf of Mexico.

Notes:

Spotted at Shoreline Park, Gulf Breeze, FL continuing bird for about a month. Staked out the spot for two days. 29 May it was a no-show, on 30 May 2017 it flew over at 3:10 pm for about an hour. When seen, it is often seen flying with a flock of 2-4 Mallards.
