This is a happy place, and me talking about letting native species thrive over invasive species is a happy topic. Having invasive species outcompeting natives and causing their declines is much more of a negative topic for any naturalist.

I prefer to watch House Sparrows build nests and have babies! I know they are an invasive species, but I am not going to try to explain that to my class of 5 year olds who are so excited because with all the noise on our campus, House Sparrows are about the only birds who are comfortable here and will get close enough for the children to see, besides a few gulls. Please keep negative comments off our class postings. This needs to be a happy place for our children to go and be excited about nature. Thank you.

Welcome to Project Noah! Glad you are getting excited about birds, but house sparrows are an invasive species and outcompete many native species of birds. If they are building a nest and you do find it, it should be removed. Anything that can be done to stop invasive species from reproducing should be done, especially when it comes to house sparrows, starlings, and collared doves. Then you can watch native birds build nests and have babies!
