Black Wildebeest

Connochaetes gnou

Description:

Dark brown body with a tan, horse-like tail. They also have a tan mane and curved horns.

Habitat:

Almost extirpated from the wild, the black wildebeest has made a come back through captive breeding programs. They are much harder to find than their cousin the blue wildebeest. The property we were staying on has a very healthy population of these guys. High elevation grasslands at 7000 ft.
