Solitary wasp

Saygorytes sp.

Description:

About 10-12 millimeters in body length, colored as shown. Resembles a diminutive paper wasp at first glance, but note that wings are not folded longitudinally at rest.

Habitat:

Found wasp seeking nectar on a goldenrod flower in the Colorado Springs Horticultural Society demonstration garden. Many ornamental and native plants planted there, but surrounding habitat is a riparian corridor with elm and cottonwood trees, grasses.
