Speyeria cybele
Fairly large butterfly ranging in size from 2 1/2 to 4 inches. Upperside of the male is tan to orange with black scales on the forewing veins. Females are tawny and are darker than the males. Underside of the hindwing has a wide, pale submarginal band and large silver spots.
Spotted along the Botany Trail at Flanders Nature Center. There were at least 5 of them flying around, some were very tattered.
