Black and Yellow Garden Spider

Argiope aurantia

Description:

This is an orb weaver. They make a stabilimentum (web decoration) in the center of their circular web. They have distinctive yellow and black markings on their abdomens and a mostly white cephalothorax. This one is about 6.5 to 7.5 cm. and is one of several in webs throughout the garden.

Habitat:

A wildlife habitat garden.

Notes:

This was a continuing check on the insect impact after 2 continuous nights of aerial spraying for West Nile.
