Lycaena virgaureae
This butterfly exhibits one kind of sexual dimorphism: male butterflies are coloured bright gold-red on the upper side of wing, while the females have broader orange wings with a dark design. The male two pairs of wings are orange with dark edge. The caterpillars live from April until June feeding on sorrel and the butterflies fly between June and August. They then lay the eggs that hatch in April after the whole winter.
On a sandy path in a pine forest (pinus sylvestris). Sierra de Guadarrama at 1500 meters high.
Camera Model: NIKON D300. Exposure Time: 1/500 sec., f/11, ISO Speed Rating: 400. Focal Length: 300.0 mm.

Thanks to you too, Leuba
Thanks Mark, you are right, it is a pity some bird (I guess) bite the wing. It must have been a very narrow escape!
Thanks Ary, you are very nice
Glorious colour Arlanda. It seems a crime that some wing should be missing.
