Lilypad Forktail

Ischnura kellicotti

Description:

Male has a blue thorax with black abdomen and blue on S8-10 (some on S7). Adult female is lighter blue and immature female is orange. Usually bends abdomen so that tip is in contact with lilypad.

Habitat:

Ponds with lilypads of either genus Nuphar or Nymphaea. Rarely seen away from water. *Dragonflies and Damselflies of Georgia and the Southeast by Giff Beaton

Notes:

If lilypads are not far off can be easily seen with binoculars from bank. There are similar species but they usually don't bend the abdomen to be in contact with the lilypad.
