Familiar Bluet Damselfly

Enallagma civile

Description:

These small damselflies are 28-39 mm. As hunters, Familiar Bluets have the habit of plucking small insects off plants as they fly by. Favored perches include logs, the ground, and waterside plants; the species has a preference for perching horizontally, but can also be found perched diagonally. This one was sitting on the ground with the Eastern Pondhawk.

Habitat:

This is a community center outdoor garden that has many annual and non-native plants, and small water features.

Notes:

These photos were taken at noon.
