Giant Swallowtail Butterfly

Description:

Forewing with diagonal band of yellow spots. Tails are edged with black and filled with yellow. Wing Span: 4 - 6 1/4 inches (10.2 - 16 cm). This is the largest of the native butterflies in Texas. There were 3 of these flying around the garden.

Habitat:

This is a community center outdoor garden that has many annual and non-native plants, and small water features. Most of the insect activity was on the Lantana, Salvia and Zinnias.
