Red Tailed Hawk

Buteo jamaicensis

Habitat:

Local cemetery

Notes:

Sometimes I just have crazy luck with raptors. Most of the time they frustrate me, but every now and then a nice surprise comes my way. While cruising a local cemetery today searching for owls, this red tailed hawk landed right above my vehicle, which is running! I carefully opened the door, peeked over the top of the truck with my lens, and there it just sat there long enough to fire off some photos. Good luck gets me excited:) I'm headed back over there before the big freeze hits tonight!

Excellent series! I feel the same way about raptors but every once in a while you get a few gems! Red-tails are some of my favorites. This is quite a handsome youngster! Great shooting!
