Acris crepitans blanchardi
This tiny non-climbing member of the treefrog family is one of three subspecies of the Northern cricket frog. This individual was an adult male. During mating season, the throats of calling males of most frog and toad species turns a darker color, and the cricket frogs throats turn this bright yellow.
Inhabits the open edges of permanent ponds, lakes, floodings, bogs, seeps and slow-moving streams and rivers
This particular subspecies is threatened in Michigan, however it appears to be declining quite rapidly across the entirety of its range.
