Description:

Family: Araneidae (Orb weaver spider) Also known as Barn Spider .37 - .75 inches long (9.5 -19 mm) Female. This spider was on the larger size. Female. Generally nocturnal except females become diurnal in the fall. Upper surface of abdomen brown/red and hairy. Undersurface is black with two white spots looking like a scary face or mask. Webs may be as large as 2 feet in diameter.

Habitat:

Meadow with abundant flowers and weeds. Range: Eastern USA to Midwest to Minnesota and south to Arizona and Mexico.
