Giant Swallowtail

Papilio cresphontes

Description:

This beautiful butterfly is nearly always found in association with plants in the citrus family and is considered a pest of ornamental citrus by growers, as its larvae feed on the foliage. In this area of Central Texas where ornamental citrus is not common, the native Waffer Ash (Ptelea trifoliata) serves as a larval food.

Habitat:

Habitat yard on Lake Belton, with plants chosen to attract wildlife.
