Salt marsh moth (female)

Estigmene acrea

Description:

Huge white moth (see photos 5 & 6 for size comparison) napping under a leaf.

Habitat:

Semi rural wildlife habitat

Notes:

This little gal was so chilled out I don't think she was even aware of being on my fingers. I replaced him carefully back under a leaf on the beebalm after taking a few shot. I didn't notice the eggs on the leaf until I downloaded the photos!

I revised the ID of this after double checking in light of finding a male salt marsh moth close to the area. The eggs on the leaf are possibly hers.

Sadly I found him dead this morning which was probably why he was so compliant yesterday. I don't usually post dead critters but it gave me a chance to get a pic of its ventral side so I've added a further photo.

Thanks Mark & Leuba! I only went outside for a few minutes yesterday so I was stoked to find this guy & a really cool crab spider!
