Cooper's Hawk

Accipiter cooperii

Notes:

We were hiking around a natural spring when suddenly all of the small birds in the trees burst into the sky in a panic. A few moments later an inquisitive hawk landed in the near by trees and continued hunting for his next meal. I am 99% sure this is a coop. Does anybody see it differently? At the time I was sure it was a coop but now that I am looking at it on my computer I am over thinking it and am not sure. Apparently, coops are common in the area and sharpies are uncommon. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Alright, I am committing to the coop! In a couple of the pics I took the tail looked straight! I will update my spotting now! Thanks guys!

I'm pretty confident it is a cooper's hawk. Note the round tip on the tail. Sharp-shinned hawks have a straight tip.

Thanks for the input Gatorfellows! I have seen that link, I actually have it bookmarked! It's a great one! I'm glad you too think it is a coop. I'll probably end up going with that! Thank you!

Just in case you do not have this comparison link form Cornell: http://static.birds.cornell.edu/pfw/Abou...
It looks like a Cooper to me - tail white tip and middle feather length, chest width shape low like a barrel, light belly, eyes close to front, head ahead of wings in flight shots.
