Glasswing moth

Nyridela sp.

Habitat:

I spotted this butterfly at Montagne des Pères, close to Kourou in French Guyana. I guess it belongs to the Sesiidae family?

Notes:

In fact I'm not even sure that it is really a butterfly. Anyone knows?

Thank you, Bayucca. Unfortunately, I have no other photo of this species. It was quite high up and at the time I only had an old Canon camera, nothing like the modern digital cams.

Any other shot with the colors of the antennae? Yellow antennae tips??

Arctiidae, Ctenuchinae. I don't think this is a Sesiidae. And it is a moth not a butterfly. I only know one genus with this pattern and distribution of veins and stripes (see one black stripe across the whole (!) forewing and a narrow black margin (quite regular). Unfortunately I have no reference with "fresh" ones, only older specimens, so colors and spots might have disappeared.

Best guess, that's some sort of wasp-mimicking clearwing moth. Something like this one: http://www.flickr.com/photos/artour_a/57...
