A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Burhinus grallarius
Dry sclerophyl forest floor, semi-wooded grasslands. Common in suburban parks and even inner city Brisbane.
This unassuming bird has acquired a reputation for sneakiness and valour, as a quiet, still-standing camouflage master found nesting in tiny office-front gardens, and determined dads brooding nests threatened by chainsaw wielding council workers removing storm-broken trees. And yet, their uncanny evening screeches have many confused, and they go unnoticed most of the time.

Thanks! I love these guys too, and often seem to be the only person who sees them :)
