Tree Pelt Lichen

Peltigera collina

Description:

I don't often see members of this genus on trees, but rather on the ground. The soredia, which you can see in the 3rd photo, helps identify this as Peltigera collina. These were very dried up as we had an uncharacteristically dry summer.

Habitat:

Growing 5-6 feet up the trunk of a Black Cottonwood tree.

Notes:

Thanks to Toby Spribille for the identification
