Thanks. this one was actually quite calm but many times when approached they whip their tail and flatten out to look larger and strike at you. love these!

All the water snakes in the genus Nerodia are non-venomous. They DO, however, have scent glands and aren't afraid to use them if molested. They're also known to be quick to bite, but again, they are not venomous. They just like to be left alone. :-)
