Southern flannel moth

Megalopyge opercularis

Description:

approx. 1 inch

Habitat:

spotted on outside of greenhouse on riverfront property

Notes:

I first saw this moth high on the greenhouse (#5); but when I leaned against the flexible wall the moth fell on me. I assumed it had expired so I brought it home to get closer photos. Then, when I took it from the little box, it crawled onto my thumb and eventually flew away.
