White-Spotted Puffer

Arothron hispidus

Description:

A medium-sized, grey puffer with white spots and yellow fins. Largely nocturnal, though I saw this one during the day (he was very slow though). Solitary fish, feed on a range of things from algae to echinoderms. Found to depths of around 35m.

Habitat:

Can tolerate some range in salinity so can be found estuaries and tidal pools, as well as reefs. I found this one in a fairly shallow (no deeper than 12m), sandy reef, near the Bajo village of Sampela.

Notes:

Spotted this in the Wakatobi National Park in Indonesia.
