Ptilinopus regina
This gorgeous bird came to our back fence briefly today to check out our mulberry tree, and I managed to get a few pics before it took off. I have never seen a fruit dove before! Rose-crowned Fruit-Doves feed in the canopy of rainforest, mainly in the morning or late afternoon, so are hard to spot. They swallow fruit whole and particularly like figs and the fruit of other species of rainforest trees, palms and vines. They also use Camphor Laurel as a food source.

All I can say is..Wow!
great captures!
My Grandson will like this one!
Great pics Shanna of such a special bird
Thanks Leanne, best of luck to you too! : )
Ha! Yes I've done the same mad dash for the camera. I'm so pleased you got him. You got some great shots of all his beautiful colours. I saw a Woompoo Pigeon the same day as the Rose-crowned Fruit Dove. I barely caught a glimpse! Superb is on my wish-list too Shanna. Good luck :)
I didn't realise there was more than one brightly-coloured fruit-dove here. I have been on the lookout for a Superb Fruit-Dove, and that's what I thought this one was - you should have seen me scramble for the camera! (The Superb Fruit-Dove is still on my wishlist, but this was just as good!!) Sadly it didn't hang around long. I sat there for ages hoping it would come back, but it didn't.
Yes, but mine was quite high in a tree. Aren't they so special! It was the first time I had seen one too Shanna. I'm in love with them :)
What a fun-colored bird!
Lovely bird!
