Description:

Houseflies are divided into 3 parts. Head, thorax, and abdomen. Houseflies have 2, red compound eyes. 2 antennae, and 6 legs. Houseflies have only one pair of wings, and the hind pair of wings, is reduced to small halteres, that aid in flight stability. Houseflies are only active in the daytime, and rest at night. The Housefly, is the most common of domestic flies. Houseflies go through complete metamorphosis. It is considered a pest that can carry serious diseases. Because of there large intake of food, they deposit feces constantly, one of the factors that make this insect a dangerous carrier of pathogens. Mechanical transmission of organisms on its hairs, mouthparts, vomitus, and feces. The body of the adult male, is 6-7 mm. long. The female is larger. Houseflies feed on liquid or semiliquid substances, besides solid material which has been softened by saliva or vomit.

Habitat:

Around homes, poultry and dairy farms, stables, garbage dumps, and other sources of rotting plant and animal matter.

Notes:

This Housefly was flying around the kitchen in my house. It landed a few times, so I was able to take its photo.
