Tropical Orb-weaver

Eriophora ravilla (C.L. Koch

Description:

Abdomen the size of my thumbnail. She kept all tucked up, so I can't get an estimate of the legs.

Habitat:

My front porch.

Notes:

Saw this beauty on my front porch very early this morning. She (?) did not appreciate the flashlight, apparently, since she kept hiding. My camera doesn't have a flash. Sorta cool thought, how the angle of the flashlight brings out the hairs all over the body. By the time the sun was up in earnest, there was absolutely no sign of "her" - no web, no spider. A true disappearing act.
