It is brown with white patches in the discal area of the forewings. The underside is a shiny silvery white, with dark markings consisting of irregular lines, spots and waves. There are four distinct spots at the costa and base of the hind wing. The wings are distinctly narrower and pointed. There is a slight seasonal variation such as the underside of the dry season form has similar markings as the wet season form but broader, coarser, and more prominent. Also the forewing on the upper side bears a large, oval, obliquely-placed conical patch that extends from the middle of the dorsal margin to vein 4 of the dry season form.
It is not an uncommon species and can be found in low and mid countries up to the elevation of 4000 feet but rare above 1200 m. These butterflies are usually spotted in forest glades and forest edges
It flies low in a darting style, keeping close to the ground. The males are frequently found around cow dung and damp patches. Also seen landing on protruding twigs
