Monarch butterflies were first spotted in NZ , in 1870's, and they became an endemic species...
Monarchs came here sometimes in mid 19th century, through migration in central &southern pacific...The species was naturalized straight away, and now it is considered an endemic/native. The NZ monarchs, don't migrate.
I am amazed you have the Monarch Butterfly in New Zealand! So neat.
