A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Dolichovespula maculata
This wasp and nest were in a tree in my driveway about 2 meters above the ground. I took this shot using a remote. The camera and tripod were set up on the hood of my SUV with about 4” between the nest and my macro lens.
Located in Ancaster, Ontario Canada Urban, loosely populated neighborhood.
Although this species of wasp is known to be aggressive, this nest seemed pretty complacent with our existence. Many people wandered close to this next and not a single sting incident occurred all summer.
