Description:

Xalxócotl , xaxokotl , xaxucotl ( Nahuatl )... It is a shrub or tree 4 to L0M tall, with smooth bark and brown. It 's hard, ovate, with downy back and ribs embossed leaves. The flowers are solitary , white or cream, fragrant with many stamens. The fruits are globose , with a fragrant and the pulp is yellow or pink , with numerous seeds . Guava is native to the Old World tropics and is found in warm, semi, dry , dry, warm climates, from sea level to 2500m . Grown in home gardens, this roadside or streams associated with disturbed vegetation in coastal dunes, tropical deciduous forests , deciduous , evergreen and subperennifolio , spiny forest , subtropical desert scrub , grassland , cloud forest , forest oak , pine and mixed oak-pine .

Habitat:

urban area in Tampico Tamaulipas and my backyard.

Notes:

The leaves contain a rich essential oil in caryophyllene , nerolidiol , 3 - bisabolene , aromandreno and para- selinene . Were also identified beta- sitosterol , triterpenoids ; oleanolic acid , ursolic , catególico and guayavólico ; 10% of ellagic acid derivatives tannins and flavonoids quercetin and quercetin -3 - arabinoside . At the root were detected leucocyanidins , sterols and gallic acid. The fruit is rich in vitamin C. It is considered the antispasmodic principle quercetin in leaves of Psidium guajava and probably antidiarrheal .
