A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Papilio troilus
This is a good depiction by serial digital photograph of the Spicebush Swallowtail Butterfly landing to feed. It depicts patternation and color scheme of the anthropod.
This Spicebush Swallowtail Butterfly was spotted in my backyard garden wall. The wall is planted with Homestead Purple Verbena (Verbena canadensis 'Homestead Purple'), which is a low growing, creeping, full sun loving plant. The Spicebush Swallowtail Butterflies love this plant.
I am located in planting zone 7a under the new zoning system and 7 under the old system. The photos presented follow the butterfly from arrival, feeding, to departure. The enlarged photos will be resubmitted due to the scaling effect that NOAH constrants. The location is in Kodak, Tennessee just outside the city limits of Sevierville, TN. I am about 10 miles from the enterance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Good series of photos! I suggest you move this spotting to the mission, "Butterflies & Moths of the World." http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/4989...
