American White Pelican

Pelecanus erythrorhynchos

Description:

Large white bird with yellow to orange beak and legs. The beak has a pouch which expands when the bird is feeding. These birds are migratory in this part of the country. When standing this bird is relatively short.

Habitat:

seacoast, large lakes and rivers

Notes:

The birds pictured here arrived in early April and were joined by more pelicans as the month went along.
