Costus spectabilis
Closely related to the Ginger family Zingiberaceae, it produces 4 large (12 x 12 cm), fleshy leaves which lie flat on the ground and form a basal rosette.
miombo woodland, 1000m, Widespread from Sierra Leone to Sudan and South to Angola and Zimbabwe
I spotted a lot of these in Malawi, this one was in Namizimu forest reserve.
