Gopher Tortoise Hatchling

Gopherus polyphemus

Description:

This adorable little guy has orange on the center of each scute with them being outlined with brown. Definitely one of the cutest non-snake reptiles I've ever seen! Found him while helping Georgia DNR with gopher tortoise surveys. The 4th and 5th photos show his tiny little burrow we found him outside of.

Habitat:

Found at the edge of an open field surrounded by pine forest.

Well thank you, but this is a tortoise, not a turtle :)

I was looking for turtle spottings, because I love turtles, and WOW this little guy is so cute and tiny! In my opinion, its SOTD worthy.

When I was young I found gopher turtles all around my snake hunting areas. Big ones too!
