Acacia longifolia
Also called the Sydney golden wattle, coastal wattle or long-leaved wattle, this wattle tree was about 6 mts with cylindrical inflorescence of bright yellow flowers. The mostly straight phyllodes were upto 10 cms long and well separated.
Spotted in a dry sclerophyll forest - part of Dandenong ranges NP. This wattle is native to eastern states of Australia.
The sallow wattle has been naturalised in West Australia where it is competing with indigenous species. It is a pest in South Africa and Portugal where it was inroduced for wood and soil erosion protection. Gall forming wasps have been introduced in S.Africa and this has made a significant difference in the rate of spread of this invasive wattle.
Family: Fabaceae

They are beautiful and cheerful, aren't they ...and you can actually smell the nectar in the breeze..
I so like wattle, of any species and as I don't suffer from hay-fever can truly appreciate the perfume.
