Description:

This small insect, was about three sixteenth of an inch long. It had 2 compound eyes, and 2 antennae. It also had 4 legs, and a red orange thorax. It also had a head, thorax, and abdomen. It also had wings. It's head was a dark color, and it's wings were a dark color too. I only saw 4 legs..

Habitat:

At around 1:30 p.m. In the afternoon, I went outside. To the right of the front door, this insect was resting on a pane of glass.

At around 1:30 p.m. in the afternoon, I went outside. To the right of the front door, this insect was resting on a pane of glass. It had a head, thorax, and abdomen. It also had wings. It had 2 compound eyes, and 2 antennae. I only saw 4 legs. The head and wings, were a dark color. The thorax, was a red orange color. It was about three sixteenth, of an inch long.

Great observations! The males have larger heads than the females of this fly Family, Bibionidae (also called March Flies).

Indeed, this fly has seen some tough times. You can see the stub of what was left of his front left leg in some of your photos. Better to lose a leg than your life, especially when you are food for everything (as this fly is).
