Eastern Box Turtle

Description:

Mid-size, with a high rounded shell that's dark with orange or yellow blotches. Usually have red eyes. This species is common, but protected so if you come in contact, please refrain from taking them out of their natural environment.

Habitat:

Terrestrial, wooded areas

Notes:

Found this little guy next to the woods out in Dixon. He stayed in his shell until I pulled out my camera, haha. He came out to strike a pose.
