Red-tailed Hawk

Buteo jamaicensis (Gmelin, 1788)

Description:

Large raptor species that is recognizable by the red coloring on the tail. Preys upon many small mammals, but specifically mice and voles. Sexes are not sexually dimorphic.

Habitat:

Found across much of the U.S.

Notes:

This hawk is incubating eggs. It was pretty unwilling to leave the nest.
