Sanguinaria canadensis
Bloodroot is a beautiful flower that can have 8-12 white petals and yellow stamens. It can grow from 20 cm - 50 cm tall. It has one large basal leaf that can be up to 12 cm long.
It is commonly found in Eastern North America when it blooms anywhere from March to May. This one was found in Camilla Park in Mississauga, Ontario near a small river under the hot sun.
It is a producer being at the 2nd level of the trophic levels following the sun. In its food chain, it is commonly followed by one of its primary consumers being an ant. The bloodroot gets the original energy from the process of photosynthesis using the sun, water, and carbon dioxide to make its own food and oxygen.
