Witch's Hat

Hygrocybe conica

Description:

Commonly known as the witch's hat, conical wax cap or conical slimy cap This was tiny. About 1.5 inches tall

Habitat:

In grasses on the top of a ridge about 100m from forestry

Notes:

Any assistance identifying this would be helpful. I have been unable to locate it in any book but I thing it is very young and yet to grow into a mature fungus.

Fungi aren't plants Peter - they're actually closer to animals! :-)

Hygrocybe chlorophana or Hygrocybe conica seem the most likely candidates so far. I wish I had taken a picture of the gills as I've subsequently found that this is the easiest way to be sure of the plant. Not sure I could ever find this again due to the extreme remoteness of its location.

Well,i have been searching Hygrocybe psittacina info and i found that more likely that this one is a Hygrocybe conica,is still young(no signs of any decay) and Hygrocybe psittacina tend to be green when young and yellow after a few time, but of course in what concern to fungi,id without spore prints or microscopic photos is allways not 100% sure, lets see what our fungi specialist have to say,i'll show it to Randy and Orbea tonigth so we can have more opinions :-)

It's always important to see the underneath on these. Gills can say a lot. It looks like a Hygrocybe to me. Some H. examples Hygrocybe psittacina, http://mycologista.blogspot.com.au/2010_...
Hygrocybe persistens https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:...
or Hygrocybe chlorophana. http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/golden...

I will ask AntónioGinjaGinja to take a look later.
