Scolia (Discolia) vollenhoveni
Body length is about 17mm.
Urban garden.
Hi Leana... Male wasp as evidenced by the long, straight antennae. (read it somewhere :))..
Pls check 1) Tarantula Hawk Wasp (Pepsis) (Spider Wasps: Family Pompilidae); 2) Blue-Winged Wasp (Scolia) (Scoliid Wasps: Family Scoliidae). Pls check also this similar African wasp, Scolia wahlbergii (http://www.waspweb.org/Vespoidea/Scoliid...). And a similar PN spotting (http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/146...).
I checked my other photos Ashish and the antenna is always in a straight position. I see lots of mud houses where they are circling but I never saw them enter one :)
I think I have a similar spotting (although yours has been beautifully captured :)) - http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/147.... I can't find a matching ID either.
